I have been in touch with Scottie Lindsay, Robert Lake's sister and she gave me some details about Robert's death and family. Robert died at age 35 from lymphoma which was virulent and untreatable. His wife remarried and lives in Mt Pleasant. His son Scott is a doctor in Charleston specializing in palliative care and his daughter Julie teaches French in Charleston. Both children have two boys. Sister Scottie was very touched that Robert was still thought of in such special ways. There is a Robert Lake Park in Montreat dedicated to Robert's memory. Robert was a Presbyterian minister just like his father.

Rober Lake was one of the finest, funniest people I have ever known.   We lost a very special person when we lost him.

Hi Danny! This summer I took my Granddaughters to the most amazing playground in Black Mountain, NC. It’s now the Robert Lake Playground! A rock filled stream runs through the middle of it and the kids love playing in the water and on the rocks. Robert became my special close friend when his dad brought their family to Winston around 1950. He was the new pastor of our church, First Presbyterian. Robert and I met in kindergarten there. We went to church camp at Montreat many times, still my most favorite place in the mountains. It’s only 20 minutes from Asheville. Billy Graham’s home is there. Robert was much loved by our Class of ’62 and this Playground dedication is a beautiful way to honor him.

Thanks so much for keeping our Classmates connected and informed! I am living in Greenville, SC now. Our friend, Don Lineback and his wife, Judy, have laid out the welcome mat with tours and invitations, even took me to meet the Mayor!

I’ll be happy to see you next time the Class gathers. Hope it’s soon.
