Harry L. Johnson

Harry L. Johnson

Thanks to classmate, Jim Middleton, we now have more information on our classmate, the late Harry Lemont Johnson who was Jim's second cousin.  They called him Monte, a takeoff of his middle name of LeMont.  Monte had two brothers and a sister.  After graduating from RJR, Monte graduated form Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee.  His first job after college was in Winston Salem at a paint company.  After that, he went to work for the TVA - Tennessee Valley Authority - and moved to Aiken, SC where he worked on the Savannah River Project.   He became very successful but in 1997, to everyone's shock, he died suddenly, devastatomg his loving parents.  A memorial service was held at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston Salem and he was buried at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Harry Lemont  Johnson lived a good and honorable life and was loved by many.  The  RJR Class of 1962 sends its deepest condolences to  his family.  Monte, you will never be forgotten and may the good Lord bless and keep you forever.  Rest in peace, our great friend and classsmate.

When Monte got a paper route closer to his home on Hawthorne Rd. he helped me get my first job by recommending me to WSJS for his old route.  So sad to hear that he has passed, my condolences to his family.
