These are excerpts from Don's obituary found in the WS Journal  on July 31, 2009. Donald E. Norwood , age 64, of West Jefferson, died Thursday morning July 30th, 2009. Don was born in Miami, Florida on August 9, 1944 and graduated from High Point University. He was proud of his Quaker heritage and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He was an licensed electrical contractor.  He had retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. He served as an instructor for a number of community colleges in the state. He volunteered his electrical abilities for a number of charitable causes.  He was a charter member of the Board of Ashe County Habitat for Humanity and also enjoyed his membership in the Ashe County Amateur Radio Cllub.  He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marlene, also, by his daughter,Elizabeth Norwood Fischer and husband A.J. as well as by numerous other relatives.

According to fellow classmante, Elaine Isgott Pace, Don was just an all around good guy.  She says that he holds one rather signifcant RJ Reynolds distinction.  Because he had to go to summer school to graduate, he received his diploma late. Of all the thousands upon thousands of diplomas awarded by Pop Joyner, he awarded his very last diploma to Don Norwood. (Now there's some Reynolds High School trivia that should be remembered).

Note from Millie (Yarbrough) Piece to Danny Ferguson  2/29/12

Hi Danny, I definitely remember Don Norwood. He was such a likeable person……. friendly, personable, and easy to talk with. We went to the same church as they did, years ago. We may have been in the same Sunday school class. We moved away, the church had changes going on, and we lost contact. I remember Don and Marlene as super nice people!
