I graduated from Clemson Univ. in 1966 in Mechanical Engineering. I went to work for Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) that same year working on the design of a new nuclear submarine. The submarine became the SSN 688, LOS ANGELES. Between 1969 and 1996, NNS and Electric Boat built 62 LOS ANGELES Class submarines. I ended up responsible for the reactor Plant design. In 1971, I received an MS Degree from Old Dominion University in Thermal Engineering. Subsequent to working on the LOS ANGELES Class, I became responsible for maintenance of the reactor plant design on the CVN 68, NIMITZ Class Aircraft Carrier. This work was in prelude to the begining of a design program for a successor to the NIMITZ Class Carrier. I became the Engineering Manager for the Concept Design Phase of what was called CVX. The CVX became the CVN 78, GERALD FORD Class Aircraft Carrier. Subsequent to the conceept design of the CVN 78, I became the Director of Nuclear Quality for the shipyard. I retired after 42 years with the shipyard in 2009.
