Our classmate, Jane Eva Sapp Van De Car passed away on May 12th, 2016.  The following is a summary of her obituary from the Sunday, May 15th, 2016 Winston Salem Journal:

Jane was 71 years old when she died and was the beloved mother of Ryan S. Van De Car (Margaret B.) and Jill A. Van De Car; sister of Bennett B. Sapp (Raye); aunt of Corben I. Sapp (Ashley H.) and Andrea L. Saurage; great-aunt of Betsy, Bennett, Evan, Lindley and Claire and dear friend to many.

Jane, often lovingly referred to as "Janie" was born on August 24, 1944, to Malcom B.  and Edith L. Masencup Sapp in Winston Salem, NC. She was a graduate of Winston Salem's RJ Reynolds High School and received her Bachelor's in Nursing from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.  She went on to become a Captain in the US Air Force and served s a nurse on Cam Rahn Base in KhanhHoa, Vietnm, during the Vietnam War from 1968 - 1970. Following her service, she married and began her family in St. Louis, MO. while continuing  to serve in various nursing capacities for the Veteran's Administration and became an active member of the Vietnam Veteran's Administration of America, Chapter 794.  Upon retirement, she returned to North Carolina to be close to her family and the coast in Wilmington.  Jane enjoyed reading, gardening, her pets, and spending time at the beach with family.  She was a compassionate and loving mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend with an infectious sense of humor and laugh.  She was generous and giving of her time an love to all those she met and will dearly missed and remembered.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 10 am til 12 noon at the Wilmington Funeral and Cremation Chapel, 1535  S.41t Street, Wilmington, NC  28403.  A commital service will follow at 2 pm at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Landing Road.  Jacksonville, NC  28540.  A presentation of Military Honors will be rendered in recognition Jones honorable and faithful service to her country.  While Jane loved flowers, contributons made to your local Humane Society in memory of Jane would be greatly appreciated.   Pleas share memories and condolences with the family at www.wilmingtoncares.com  Wilmington Funeral and Cremation, 1535 S 41st street, Wilmington, NC  28403, 910-791-9099.
