In Memory

Sandra Packard (Harris)

COLUMBIA-Sandra Packard Harris died Monday, March 28, 2016. Born August 12, 1944 in Indianapolis, IN, she was the daughter of the late Clinton L. Packard and the late Ruth Mills Packard.

  •
  • Sandra (Sandy) was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. As a wife and
mother, she always wanted the very best for her family and constantly
encouraged Charlie, Rick, Kelly, Ryan and Jeremy to push themselves and
    strive for excellence.

To sum up a person’s life in a just few words is virtually
impossible…but here are a few words to describe Sandy…

Musician – Sandy was an accomplished piano/organ player, and could whistle beautifully. Listening to music (Gaither Gospel in particular) brought her so much joy and happiness.

Competitive - Sandy had a highly competitive spirit and was a skilled card player and enjoyed board games (as long as she won of course).
Smart - Sandy had an excellent vocabulary and was a great speller and
therefore terrific at word games. She also had good handwriting (although she didn't think so).

Creative – Sandy’s talents in decorating, landscape design & having an
extraordinary “eye for things” were best evident during her time devoted to the resale of china, crystal and flatware.

Artistic – Sandy was artistic and this really came across when she wrapped presents, particularly at Christmas. She spent countless hours making sure all of the wrapping paper matched and always chose a different theme each Christmas. She did not settle for your average wrapping paper either. Mostly homemade (right down to the bows), her presents were a sight to behold (can you say perfectionist?)

Frugal – Sandy knew the value of a dollar and could sure stretch it to the max (first due to necessity when the kids were young and then later because she did not believe in waste). Through simple tasks like grocery and household shopping with coupons/sales ads to recycling and re-purposing. Now some would have you believe she took it too far and actually re-washed and re-used paper towels and aluminum foil…but we will never tell.

Multi-Faceted – Sandy was an excellent cook, a terrific greeting card giver and a very thoughtful gift giver. She hated to have her picture taken and told it like it was (Sandy's way or the highway). When she laughed, she laughed until tears came. She was a wife, a mother, a grand-mother, a sister, a step-sister, a sister-in-law, an aunt, a niece, a cousin, a neighbor and a friend.

Sorry to hear about Sandra.  The long version by Kelly Gregory is the most innovative and complete obituary I've seen.  I just copied and sent it out to friends and relatives as a sample!
