According to her obituary in the Winston Salem Journal, Gayle passed away on Septmber 18, 2008.  She was born March 8, 1943 to Julius Earl and Louise Taylor Goodwin.  After high school, Gayle went on to graduate from Atlantic Christian College and Winston-Salem Business College.   Her great love was First Christian Church where she was a life-long member.  She greatly cherished her family and friends and enjoyed the companionship of her little dog, Salem.  She enjoyed the Braves, Coca Cola and her favorite soap operas.  Her greatest love was spending time with her many "children and grandchildren."  She had an unconditional love for all people.   This Christ-like trait allowed her to be a joyful person, free of anger jealously or envy.  Her family and friends will remember a life lived with appreciation, generosity, patience and kindness.  Gayle was preceeded in death by her parents and two nephews.  She is survived by two sisters, Julie Irby and husband of Virginia Beach and Beresa Blemings and husband of Winston Salem as well as a number of other  family members.

-Those of us at Reynolds who remember Gayle know  that she was a courageous young lady and an inspiration to us all.  The world is a better place because she lived.

Gayle was a great friend of mine when we first moved to Winston-Salem, as her parents were staunch members of First Christian where my father was called to serve as minister.  I remember parties in her wonderful basement recreation room where there was a player piano and a closet perfect for hiding in during the game  "Post Office".  Oh, my, what innocents we were!

Gayle never complained about her stature or disabilities and was a dear soul.  I miss her.

I met Gayle when I went to Wiley School in the fourth grade.  She as so sweet and kind to me.  I enjoyed our friendship through high school.  She was truly a joy to know.  I wish I had known she went to Atlantic Christian in Wilson because Wally and I lived in Wilson at that time and he graduated from ACC.   Small world.

Bonnie Forrest Boles - Gayle only went to ACC for a year or two. She and I went there as freshmen in 1962, but she did not graduate. What years were you and Wally in Wilson?
