I found Susan's obituary in the Winston Salem Journal, and I summarize it as follows:

Susan passed away on December 7, 2009 at Hospice Home in Winston Salem.  She is survived by her two sons Louis and Colin Stainback, her daughters in law, Candace and Lisa Stainback, her four grandchildren, Chelsea, Taylor, Sawyer and Carter Stainback, and her brother Richard Decker.  Most of her adult life, Susan lived in Asheville and became a well known potter in the area.  She is known for her love of nature foods and being a great cook.  Susan loved to travel and maintained a close relationship with many friends that shared her interest and way of life.  She will be missed by her family and many friends.

I remember Susan (or 'Decker' as she was known by her friends) both in high school and at our 40th reunion.  She was a very friendly and cordial person, always with a kind word. Also, apparently she made a name for herself as a potter and as a cook. I was really looking forward to seeing her at the 50th.  Danny Ferguson

Phyllis Anne Stallings (Collins)

Susan and I were close friends in high school and reconnected at the 40th reunion.  Afterwards I waited too long to write her at the address she gave me; my letter was returned.  I tried to find a new address on the internet but had no luck. I just now found her in the memorial list. I had no idea she had passed away. I am so sorry and sad that she is gone. I offer heartfelt condolences to her loved ones.
