Karolyn Coplon

Karolyn Coplon

Our information on Karolyn Sherry Coplon is  somewhat sketchy, but with the help of Nancy Crews Ash,  this is to report what we have found.  She was very well liked in high school as can be discerned from the comments of classmates below.   Her father owned Mother and Daughter Store and apparently both he and her mother were very supportive.  She attended Greensboro College.  At some point she married and had children - we believe.  We know she died of cancer much too young.  Karolyn, may you rest in peace, knowing that your RJ Reynolds classmates have not forgotten you.

KAROLYN SAT IN FRONT OF ME IN SOME OF OUR CLASSES.  SPECIFACLY I REMEMBER MS. RHODES' ENGLISH CLASS.  SHE WAS ALWAYS VERY SWEET AND NICE, AND I LIKED HER VERY MUCH.  I UNDERSTAND SHE PASSED A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO, AND I HAD LOST TOUCH WITH HER, SO I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED  I REMEMBER TYPING A PAPER FOR HER, AND SHE AND HER MOTHER COMING TO MY HOME TO PICK IT UP.   ODDLY ENOUGH, I WORKED AFTER SCHOOL AT MOTHER AND DAUGHTER STORE, AND FOUND OUT LATER HER DAD WAS THE OWNER.  IT IS GONE NOW FROM THE WINSTON-SALEM DOWNTOWN SCENE, BUT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HER AND WORKING AT HER DAD'S STORE.  MARY LOU FLYNT

Karolyn Coplon and I were together in a special reading class for some time not long after we graduated from high school.  I moved to Charlotte, NC, to go to college several years after we graduated and lost contact with her.  My mother sent me an obituary notice sometime around 1970 that she had died of cancer and left behind a husband and several children.  Jim and I were living in Charlotte and I had a small son so I couldn't get to the funeral. As I recall from the obituary notice that she was living in Winston-Salem, NC, when she died.  That's all the information I have.  She was always so nice to everyone.  Catherine Chandler Appleyard
